Workshop Recap

I had a ton of fun seeing familiar faces and meeting new friends at my Making Waves workshop earlier this month. I was so nervous leading up to it, but managed to power through and had a total blast. We experimented with mixed media on photographs and it was so neat to see what everyone created. I will definitely do more in person workshops in the future and hope to figure out a way to do virtual workshops as well.

I'm teaching a workshop!

Guess who is going to be teaching their first workshop? (It's me!)

This has been on the backburner for some time, and the forces finally aligned with Making Waves Art Studio! I'll be leading a group through making art on photographs on Wednesday, March 13 and it is going to be super fun. I have lots of tricks and tips to share to make your photos come alive. More info and link to sign up is on the Making Waves website. I would love to see you there!

Hunt Residency "Verge" Opening

Installation for our group show Verge started yesterday at Hunt Gallery! I snapped a quick photo of two of my pieces before I had to duck out, but would love to see you at the opening this Friday from 5-9PM! Above on the right is one of the pieces included in the show, and the start of a new series titled Ways to Grow 1.

About the show: Hunt Residencies II opening reception for the group exhibition Verge will take place January 13th, 2023. Verge will showcase the artwork completed by the six artists that entered Hunt Residencies studios in August 2022. Work by resident artists Avanna Duff, Eugene Sims, Laura Valkwitch, Cassandra Ott, DJ Carr, and Nicholas Wheeler are taking over the main gallery. The evening will also introduce the arrival of seven new artists in residence for the third cohort of Hunt Residencies. The exhibition will be on view through February 10th, 2023.

Studio Time!

Started in April of 2021, Studio Time! is a weekly virtual art making meetup that I host via Zoom.

It’s pretty simple… Here are the details:

Here is how it works...

It’s an hour and a half silent group art making session via video. A quiet time carved out in the week to work with a sense of camaraderie and community.

-We show up and connect (doors open 15 mins ahead of time if you are looking for extra creative community and conversation)
-We find our center and I start the clock
-We mute and we dive into our creativity!
-We have a solid 75 mins set aside to create
(work on anything... from sketchbooking, your current project or, that thing you keep avoiding and need accountability for...)
-We close by taking a moment to notice how it went, and plan the next step

This is a standing weekly meeting open to all Studio Time! friends (and friends of friends). If you know of someone you think would benefit, encourage them to join us. I would love to see you there!

If you are interested in joining us, please reach out below and I can add you to the weekly email reminder :)

Hallwalls A Mid Summer Night's Draw

Last night, I participated in my third A Mid Summer Night's Draw – Live Drawing Rally to benefit Hallwalls. 36 artists create a 12"x18" piece of art in their style in 45 minutes... so fun! Practicing for the event spawned two new colorful series that I hope to share on my website soon. This year, bidding is happening via silent auction and you can bid on the piece I created at the event (below, right) through tonight at 9PM EST. Bidding starts at $39 and there are 35 other awesome works available as well! I hope you will check out this link to bid.

So fun! Here is an in progress photo from the Winter 2017 event.

Studio Sale 🎉

It is a crazy milestone to think that we have been in this pandemic for a whole year. Last March, I spent 7 days at a residency at Drop Forge & Tool – time that I used to dream for the year ahead. Things were getting very uneasy (and the toilet paper was disappearing off of the shelves) as I drove back from Hudson to Buffalo. Thankfully, we seem to be headed in the right direction with vaccines. Spring is in the air, and the bulbs I planted last year are about to start blooming. I'm hopeful that we will be able to get together again in person very soon!

The one year anniversary of this pandemic feels like such an appropriate time to let some of the Wish You Were Here series find new homes. The series was born in my Mother-in-law's kitchen and are rooted in connection, curiosity and wonder. I've also included many sketches from past collections that are all tied to themes of growth and renewal.

Check out the updated shop – there is a painterly sunset in Hot Springs, Arkansas; a rainbow in Glacier National Park; a dreamy river nestled in the Columbia River Highway in Oregon, and a solid as a rock giant rainbow in Yellowstone National Park. See if any special places resonate with you. Each piece includes a neutral frame, so they are ready to hang on the wall. They are like mini vacations you can visit anytime!

I also have one single pair of beautiful earrings that were alternates to the ones I made for the holidays. Take a look and see what treasures are waiting for you. Thanks as always for supporting me on this creative journey. I can't wait to dive into some new works in the coming months.
